In the 1950s in the United States, George Hansen designed a swing arm table lamp. He got the idea for this flexible lamp when he was serving as an Army staff sergeant during World War II. To read a book in bed, he used a bent copper wire bolted to the wall, wired with a bulb at the end, and used an old tin to shield the bulb. After the war was over, Hansen set up a lamp shop and created numerous attractive lamps. Inspired by this American artifact, Miguel Mila, a Spanish designer, created a rotating lamp in 1963. Americana refers to all things that are related to America.
Santa & Cole Americana Wall Lamp has a conical structure made of white linen attached to a right-angled arm made of satin nickel. Hansens creation had three sections, with the middle section acting as the swivel. Santa & Cole Americana Floor lamp has two sections, with the upper section swiveling on the tip of an immovable lower arm. But, in the wall lamp variant, the arm is an L-shaped single section, which ends in a wall bracket. The head of the wall bracket contains the swivel that enables the arm to rotate along a horizontal axis towards or away from you. Since the metal base is firmly fixed to the wall, it provides a stable lamp movement. This is ideal for bedside, over a large piece of furniture, or anywhere in a room, that is short of space and requires a 180-degree illumination.
