The Collection

Handwoven flatweaves of recycled denim, the Denim Collection drapes beautifully-like your best-fitting pair of jeans. And just like your favorite jeans, they’re washable. Woven in a melange of blues, their simple geometric shapes have a faint 1920s influence; a little bit of art deco meets Georgia O’Keefe’s Abiquiu casita. There’s a reason denim is a wardrobe staple: it’s affordable, durable, good-looking, and versatile, and these rugs are no exception. Plus, textile remnants which would have ordinarily languished in a landfill are given a new life.

The Design

This collection was constructed with a rag rug technique, which is an age-old method of transforming textiles into something new.A runner with a dappled navy ground, Bellbottom’s rectangular cream center is framed by deep black and medium blue corners.

The Material

Denim is a sturdy cotton fabric whose twill weave creates a subtle diagonal ribbing, which sets it apart from other strong woven cotton textiles. In this piece, the weft is made of upcycled denim remnants left over from fashion industry production houses, and it’s handwoven onto a cotton warp. Cotton is a vegetable fiber widely used across rug traditions because of its strength and longevity-it gets softer and more lovely with every wash.

The Maker

Our partner in Bhadohi began as a small weaver 40 years ago, and today they focus on sustainable, durable products, as well as creating and maintaining a healthy working environment for their artisans. Many of their processes involve handiwork: hand-picked fleece, handspun wool, hand-knotting, hand-carving and embroidery.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

• Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
• When it’s time for a deeper clean, machine wash your rug with like colors on a delicate setting with 1 TBSP of unscented, clear detergent.
• For sizes 6×9 and above, we recommend using a 60-lb washing machine-the large kind you find at a laundromat-rather than a home washing machine, which is usually 20-25 lbs. Line dry afterwards.
• Be sure to wash rugs according to their recommended washing machine size capacity. Please note: failure to adhere to size recommendations could result in damage to your machine.
• A slight shrinkage of up to 5% can be expected for all washable rugs
• If your rug is heavily soiled, we suggest you dry clean it instead of washing.
• Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
• As with most non-synthetic textiles, natural fiber and color softening will occur after washing, as well as slight shrinkage. We prefer this lived-in look, but if it’s not your thing, we recommend dry cleaning.
• Spot cleaning instructions:
• Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
• Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
• If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
• Repeat this process until the stain is removed
